Roy was a special and gifted man. I first met Roy in Honolulu, we both worked for TSA, and I was given the pleasure of training him. I don't think that I have ever laughed so much and so hard in all of my life! When we were on the exit lane, we would chat and it is then that I found out how truly special and gifted he was. We both discovered that we had far too much in common. Besides loving to laugh, laugh, laugh, we found that we did so, beause we both had been to the Mountain Top, courtesy of that vehicle called "Colon Cancer".......we were diagnosed with weeks of each other in 1998 and had undergone almost identical treatments. Roy had one more recurrence than I had had, and he immediately recognized the all too familiar fear in my eyes and the purposefulness of my laugh. We had both learned the healing power of a good laugh! Everyday when Roy would show up to the checkpoint, every single person in that checkpoint would light up! After recognizing everyone there, he would turn to me and we would just crack up laughing at each other! I will never forget him and his sparkling personality. I recall one ocassion when he spoke of the "love of his life", and he talked for the whole 30 minutes of his love and appreciation for you Jilon......so I asked him when he was going to pop the question to you......and he said that he was trying,he had the "pop" thing down okay, but he could never get the rest out, because you kept changing the subject on him! "I keep trying but, she doesn't want me!".........the other screener standing with us,(not realizing that Roy was clowning around), said to him, with the deepest sincerity, "Just flash her that big smile of yours and just make her laugh as much as you make us laugh, and she'll come around!" That was so funny to us! He was very proud of you and his beautiful son and right before leaving for California, he told me that he now knew what his real purpose was and why God had spared him. He went on to share that he was so happy and so fullfilled with your love that he could face anything. I was so deeply touched by what he said, that I will never forget the look on his face that day. That is always one of the questions that the survivor ponders, those of us that know Our Lord and Saviour, those of us who have been to the "Mountain Top"....we ask ourselves, "What is it that God has in store for me?"......."What is it that he wants me to do?".........many of us, do not ever get the answer to that question..........Roy was blessed to have gotten his answer in the form of his loving wife and son. On that day, when I shared with Roy that I had not received my answer yet, that "nut", true to himself, had the nerve to tell me "Not to worry about it, that knowing me, God was trying to tell me, but I couldn't hear it because I was busy laughing and making others laugh so loud I probably missed it!" Knowing Roy, he's probably right! I start everyday now with a "Thank you Lord" and a good laugh......Thanks Roy!
