Roy Maddox was born on March 9, 1964 in Jacksonville, Florida. He went home to be with the Lord on July 26, 2007. He grew up and went to school in Long Beach, California and Atlanta, Georgia. While living in Georgia, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and was baptized in 1964 at the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Atlanta, Gorgia. After graduating from Wilson High School in Long Beach, Cal. he joined the US Navy where his specialty was navigation and radar. His job title was "OS". During his military career he served on board many ships, to include the Uss Carl Vinson, Uss Constellation, Uss Reid, and Uss Coronado. He traveled all over the world to countries to include Singapore, Japan, Alaska, Korea, Africa, Australia, Thailand and the Phillippines. He spent more time out to sea than he did actually on land. Roy loved the military and would have continued his career had he been given the choice. After serving his country for 21 years, he retired from the Navy in October 2003 and moved to Hawaii with his future wife. He began his new career with TSA (Transportation Security Administration) in February 2004. There he worked as an airport screener until they saw his real potential as an instructor. Roy had always loved to be an instructor, he loved being an instuctor in the military as well as for TSA. The lives he touched were innumerable. It didnt take long for the word to get around the airport, and shortly after, all TSA screeners fought to be in one of Roy Maddox' classes. His charming personality, love for what he did, and his joy for life made everyone excited to learn new things about their job. Roy transferred back to California where he worked a short time before he was forced to stop working in January 2007 due to his illness. On July 22, 2006, Roy Madddox Jr. and Jilon Black were married on Waianae Beach Park in Honolulu, Hawaii. To this union, was born a son, Jaiden Kai Maddox. Roy was always a kind and gentle heart with enough love for everyone, for those he knew as well as those he didnt. He loved to ride his motorcycle and had joined some motorcycle clubs while in Hawaii. Roy battled cancer since 1998 when he was first diagnosed. He was cured twice and was diagosed for the 3rd time in 2004. All the while holding strong and putting on the "happy face," telling everyone, "Im ok" or "I cant complain." Many did not know he was even sick, as he rarely complained about being in pain. He never had a bad word to say about anyone. When we moved back to California, we had been searching for a church that felt "right" for the both of us. The moment we walked into Legacy christian Center, both of us automatically felt at home and knew that this is where we were supposed to be. The people of this church have always been so supportive and have blessed us in so many ways. Pastor John and Pastor Elizabeth came to our house to pray with Roy almost everyday of the last week Roy was with us. Roy was such a strong man of faith, he never gave up, even until the end, that God was going to work miracles in his life.
